Khaitan & Co has formally launched a dedicated AI and Emerging Technologies practice group, becoming one of the first Indian firms to publicly establish such a vertical. The practice will combine partners from the firm's existing IP, data protection, and TMT teams.

Scope of work

  • AI governance and compliance under the DPDP Act and forthcoming AI regulation

  • IP issues in machine learning models and training data

  • Emerging technology contracting (AI SaaS, model licensing, API agreements)

  • Liability and risk allocation in AI-driven products

Market signal

The launch comes amid increasing regulatory activity around AI in India, including draft guidelines from MeitY and discussions of a comprehensive AI law. Clients in financial services, healthcare, and fintech have driven demand for dedicated advisory in this space.
