Servier India Names Sayali Joshi as Legal & Compliance Director

Pharma major Servier has brought in Sayali Joshi to head legal and compliance for its India operations. Joshi, a 2012 graduate of Government Law College, Mumbai, arrives with close to fifteen years of in-house experience, most recently as Senior Counsel for Mars Pet Nutrition and Royal Canin India, with earlier stints at Pfizer and Colgate-Palmolive rounding out a résumé built almost entirely inside multinational consumer and pharma companies rather than in private practice.

Her mandate at Servier spans litigation, contract drafting, due diligence, intellectual property and the fuller sweep of legal and secretarial compliance work that tends to fall on a single legal head at a mid-sized multinational subsidiary, the kind of generalist in-house brief that has become fairly standard across pharma and consumer-health units operating in India's increasingly layered regulatory environment, where drug pricing rules, advertising standards, data protection obligations, and import-licensing requirements can all land on the same desk in a single week.

Appointments like this one tend not to make waves the way a General Counsel hire at a listed company does, but they matter just as much to the day-to-day texture of how multinational pharma operates in India, particularly as compliance expectations around clinical data and marketing practices keep tightening.
